Why You Should Keep Your Gutters Clear

Gutters are often overlooked, and instead more attention is given to roofs themselves. This makes sense, roofs are larger, more obvious and more costly to install, repair and maintain. So it makes sense that they naturally attract more of our attention.

However, to completely overlook the gutters and guttering of your building would be a grave mistake.

Water can be extremely damaging when not controlled properly. For examples think about the erosion that a river creates and about flood damage. For something a little closer to home think about damp in your home, and how it can go on to create a huge number of issues.

The main role of a roof is to catch and control water as soon as possible, then guide that water to the gutters before it is then deposited in the drains.

If, for whatever reason, the gutters do not function like they should then water will simply end up flowing where it should not. As previously mentioned, water can be extremely damaging, and if it flows where it shouldn’t then it is doubtful that you will escape this damage free.

There are many reasons why a gutter be malfunctioning. But there are 3 main ones. The first is that it is simply blocked, which means water spills over the side as it cannot flow properly. The next is that they are damaged and water leaks out of gaps and cracks. The third is that they were installed incorrectly in the first place, which is more common than you probably realise.

On your own home a most of these issues can be resolved yourself, however on a commercial property most gutters are simply out of reach. This is where Access Maintenance Solutions comes in. We specialise in high and awkward access roofing and guttering services.
