What Is Cut Edge Corrosion?

This includes cut edge corrosion repair and prevention.

But what is cut edge corrosion?

Cut edge corrosion happens on buildings that have steel cladding on their walls and roof. Typically, these sheets have a coating which protects them from the elements, and stops them corroding that helps lengthen the life of the building.

However, when this steel cladding is cut the cross section, which has not been treated, is exposed and thus is susceptible to corrosion and is liable to peel back. To make issues worse, peel back is often exempt from guarantee.

Corrosion is insidious in nature and will work its way through the sheet in its entirety. This is why it is vital to either prevent the corrosion from taking place, or stop it in its track if it has started.

At Access Maintenance Solutions we use a specialist material called Belzona 3111. This is a flexible membrane which covers the cut edge or the cladding and forms a watertight barrier, which protects the sheeting for years to come.
